My Hero Academia Stage Play Confirms Its Return in 2021

The official website for My Hero Academia The Ultra Stage, the stage play series adaptation of Kōhei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia manga, revealed on Saturday that the My Hero Academia The Ultra Stage: Honmono no Hero Plus Ultra Ver. (A True Hero Plus Ultra Ver.) the stage play will now run in 2021. A teaser visual featuring the silhouettes of Izuku Midoriya, Katuski Bakugo, and All Might has been posted.
Following the successful sold-out first show of the stage play, "My Hero Academia The 'Ultra' Stage" in the spring of 2019, the second show "My Hero Academia The 'Ultra' Stage Honmono no Hero" was originally scheduled to be performed in Tokyo and Osaka from March 6 to April 5, 2020. However, the production committee confirmed on July 4 that one person involved in the production had tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) three days earlier. After another person involved in the playtested positive days later, the staff decided to delay the play.
The second show was set to return as "PLUS ULTRA ver." at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo from July 17 to 26, 2020. But one of the staff members was found to be infected with the COVID-19 on July 1. As a result, the organizers decided to hold all of the scheduled 14 shows without the audience and to live-stream them on the web instead. After finding two more positive COVID-19 patients, all of the no-audience streaming was also cancelled.
The upcoming play will feature returning cast and staff. Returning staff members include Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi as director, Hideyuki Nishimori as a scriptwriter, Shunsuke Wada as a composer, and Umebō as a choreographer.
My Hero Academia: The "Ultra" Stage, the first stage play of the manga, ran in Tokyo and Osaka in April 2019.
Horikoshi launched the superhero manga series in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on July 7, 2014. Viz Media is publishing the manga in English digitally and in print, and MANGA Plus is also publishing the manga in English digitally.
